Aloha y’all. I am Amy Cook @ The Scrappy Camper. I’ve been sewing and quilting for more years than I’m willing to admit. I was blessed to have an amazing grandmother who taught me to sew when I was just about ten years old. It was one of the greatest gifts she ever gave me. I hope I can use some of her lessons to contribute to the quilting community.
I aim to create quilts that are scrappy in nature with a modern aesthetic. I will use color boldly and unapologetically, layering patterns to create added visual appeal while showing traditional motifs in a new light. Using whatever materials are at hand, I will honor the quilting tradition of telling my life’s story in fabric and thread, because quilts – like life itself – should be made up of many hues, many textures, a few mistakes, and a whole lot of warmth, love and grace.
Why did I decide, at 50 years of age, to start up a quilt pattern design company? Because I love quilting. I love everything about it. (Except maybe basting. No one loves that.) I would do it even if I didn’t get paid. It’s a time-honored tradition that deserves to be passed down to the next generation, and I truly want to be a part of that hand-off.
